5 ways to enjoy Chivda beyond Snacking

chivda in a bowl

Let’s get one thing out of the way. Eating Chivda straight from the tin is a perfectly valid life choice. I do it. Aai does it. Our customers do it. No judgment here.

But once you start experimenting with Chivda beyond the classic "handful while standing in the kitchen" move... you realize it works in way more places than you’d expect.

Our Chivda is made with roasted poha, peanuts, cashews, channa dal, dried coconut, curry leaves, and Aai’s spice blend. It’s light, crunchy, and has this perfect balance of savory, spicy, and just a hint of sweet. Which means it plays well with almost everything.

Here are five ways to enjoy it that go beyond snacking.

1. With Chai

This is the classic. The one that needs no explanation if you grew up in an Indian household.

Warm chai. A bowl of Chivda. Maybe it’s 4 PM, maybe it’s 10 PM. Doesn’t matter. The pairing just works... the warmth of the tea, the crunch of the Chivda, that moment where you’re not doing anything except sitting with something good.

This is how Chivda has been enjoyed in Indian homes for generations. If you’ve never tried it, start here. It’s the entry point into everything else on this list.

2. As a Salad topper

This is the one that surprises people.

Take any salad that needs texture... a grain bowl, a kale salad, something with roasted veggies... and add a generous handful of Chivda on top. The crunch is immediate. The spice cuts through whatever dressing you’re using. And the peanuts and cashews add a richness that croutons could never.

I started doing this on a whim one day when I was eating leftover salad and the Chivda tin was just... right there. Now I can’t go back. Regular croutons and pita crisps feel boring.

3. As a Party Snack

Pour Chivda into a nice bowl at your next gathering. That’s it. That’s the move.

It works alongside a cheese board. It works next to crudites. It works completely on its own. Maybe even with some Mint chutney or Imli ( tamarind ) chutney. It's the kind of snack where someone tries one handful, then keeps coming back to the bowl all night, and eventually asks you where you got it.

One of our customers told us they put Chivda out when they hosted friends and "it never disappoints... even friends who have never tasted it have thoroughly enjoyed it." That’s the thing about Chivda at a party. It’s the crossover crowd-pleaser. People who’ve never tried Indian snacks reach for it because it just looks good. And then it tastes even better.

4. As a Trail Mix base

This one is addictive. Fair warning.

Take a handful of Chivda and mix it with dried cranberries, extra cashews, and a few dark chocolate chips. Sweet, savory, spicy, crunchy, and a little indulgent... all in one handful.

The Chivda brings the salt and the crunch. The cranberries bring tartness. The chocolate brings... well, it’s chocolate. Everything is better with a little chocolate.

It’s the kind of trail mix you make for a hike and finish in the car before you get to the trailhead. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

5. As a Yogurt Bowl Topping

Ok, this one sounds unexpected. Stay with me.

Take thick yogurt... Greek, regular, Desi curd whatever you have. Add a drizzle of honey. Then top it with a handful of Chivda.

Sweet from the honey. Tangy from the yogurt. Crunchy, savory, and spicy from the Chivda. It’s every flavor and texture in one bite.

I know it sounds like I’m making this up. I’m not. Try it once. You’ll text me about it. (Not literally. But you’ll want to.)

Try All Five. Tell Us Your Favorite.

That’s five ways to enjoy Chivda that go beyond standing in the kitchen eating it straight from the tin. (Though again... nothing wrong with that. Method zero is a forever winner.)

Our Chivda is made with no preservatives, roasted in sunflower oil, and uses Himalayan rock salt. Every ingredient is there for a reason. Nothing is filler.
